who we are : Russell IPM is the leading manufacturer of pheromone-based insect monitoring and control systems in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. Russell IPM product range works to protect all stages of the food supply chain using systems that help to reduce the use of chemical pesticides to maintain a safe, secure, sustainable, and eco-friendly way of protecting food and other products from pest damage. The Russell IPM headquarters and main production facilities are based in Deeside in the UK. In addition, there are seven marketing subsidiaries in Spain, Ireland, Morocco, Algeria, Jordan, Kenya, South Africa, Mexico, India, Bangladesh, and China. Russell IPM markets its products in over 80 countries in EU, Africa and Mediterranean regions. As a recognition of companies outstanding performance Russell IPM has been awarded Queen’s awards for Enterprise-Innovation in 2018 and 2012. Russell IPM team’s success in sub-Saharan Africa countries encouraged us to open our business in Bangladesh. Therefore, on 14th May 2011, Russell IPM Bangladesh Limited has been duly incorporated as a Private Limited company. It is fully owned by Dr. Mohammad Nayemul Hassan and Mrs Lata Anjuman Ara Begum. Dr. Hassan is an accomplished entomologist with a PhD in Chemical ecology, and Mrs. Begum is a field entomologist with a wealth of expertise in biological control. Since 2001we have made reasonable progress in promoting biorational technologies at various vegetable and fruit growing regions in Bangladesh. We represent Russell IPM, UK in Bangladesh as Russell IPM Bangladesh Ltd., and we have the exclusive right to market all Russell IPM products.
Until today, we registered eight products viz. 1. Lycomax – MCA product, 2. Antario – BT based product for caterpillar control, 3. Cuetrac – Cucurbit fruit fly attract and kill product, 4. Fall armyworm pheromone lure, 5. Mosquiton – IGR product for mosquito control, 6. Ceranock – Female fruit fly control system, 7. Zonatrac – Male oriental fruit fly control system, 8. Matrixine plus – Biopesticide for control of lepidopteran insects for agricultural use. The mentioned products have been approved by Platn protection Wing (PPW) of Depatarent of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Ministry of Agriculture.
We expect to achieve 20 more biological product registrations by the end of 2021 which are currently under evaluation. In 2015, Russell IPM Bangladesh Ltd. was awarded an Innovate UK / DIFD project to demonstrate and commercialise bio rational pheromone-based male and female attract and kill systems to control of fruit flies in Bangladesh successfully. The project’s major activities were field trials (demonstrations) of the technology at two locations, viz. Gazipur and Jessore and on several fruits and vegetable crops, viz. mango, guava, and bitter gourd during summer and winter. During the project period, several promotional activities i.e. field trial demonstration, farmers meeting, training, development of posters and leaflets etc. were undertaken and noticed substrantial requirements of those attract and kill products’ cost around BDT 1.5 million. The trial farmers opined that they did not spray a single drop of chemical insecticides in those trial plots where the Attract and kill method was employed.
On successful completion of the Innovate UK / DFID project, the Bangladesh government has funded a development project (DPD) for four years in collaboration with Department for Agriculture Extension (DAE) and Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI). Since 2018, Russell IPM has been working closely with BARI and DAE on a five years development project on biorational IPM program development for vegetable, fruits and betel vine crops. In this project, we are working in 21 Upazilas for safe, fresh produce production and changing the livelihood of the farmers. Both the above projects work created significant demand among farmers for Russell IPM product in Bangladesh.
In Bangladesh, our head office and warehouse are located in Dhaka. We produce, sell and distribute products for agriculture, horticulture, and the public health market. One of our target markets is the horticulture market including vegetables, fruits, betel leaf, ornamental plants, and flower markets. We also sell our products for row crops like rice, maize, wheat, and onion. We have four regional marketing officers working at Northern Bangladesh in Dinajpur, Western Bangladesh in Rajshahi, Southern Bangladesh in Jessore, and the greater Dhaka areas to support our regional activities. We have been working with a BRAC seed and Agro our master distributor in all around the country to distribute our products to end-users. We are also selling our products through social media using Facebook.
